As I’ve matured I discover that the sheer weight of books, and things accumulated over a lifetime are largely unnecessary.

I encourage you to get rid of all but the essentials of your life (or trade) and give all the rest away to those with time to waste.

If you have my interests you may find the following (or their updated versions) of use. Don’t get them unless you intend to use them.

Sony RX100V This little camera is about the size of a pack of Rothmans (if you’re old enough to know what those were). For the uninitiated, that’s smaller than your router, and larger than a matchbox. It makes good images, and (if you’re lucky) with a little tweaking you can vlog, make digital art, or snaps of a friend’s cat with it.

They (the friend not the cat) will love you for it.

Apple Macbook It doesn’t really matter which one you get. It will last for years, and even should you pour a pint, or so, of water into it it may be repaired. (You may have to go to Istanbul for the best value though!)

A Smartphone I held out against these for many years, and then a neighbour gave me one. I am now a fan. I doubt that it matters which brand you buy (once you’ve broken the £100.00. barrier). Get a dual sim version though and then shop around for the best value for calls and data. That way one Sim can be used to make and receive calls, and the other for data. I tend to dislike data (so have it turned off) yet the dual Sim is great for someone who bases themselves in two countries.

I prefer using mine for reading to any Kindle device.

Lenovo Desktop Computer Let’s face it, Apple have made some awful desktops and Lenovo is one of Windows’ best. I use mine for video editing, processing digital images, writing and much more. Recently I upgraded to Windows 11, which after turning off all the news (which came with the weather app) and other unnecessary stuff, I now love.

Ergonomic Kneeling Chair. Essential for your posture when working long hours at a desk.

Small Lava (Brand) Cast Iron Frying Pan Perfect for omelettes and frying eggs. Vegans may prefer something larger.

Good Quality Cargo Pants Most makes will be fine. It’s all the pockets that are useful.

Wolff Blitz Shirts A little luxury for the vain hearted 🙂
